Welcome back to the Land Lab Camp for 2015. We were so happy to see the campers, old and new, here today. The morning started off great and everyone gathered in the barn. We reviewed Land Lab rules and procedures before the first block. During the morning block, the entire group of campers did the blind fold walk. This walk is our favorite first day activity. The kids pair up and one of them wears a blind fold as the other guilds them through the woods. This walk specifically makes the campers focus on their senses and is a great communication activity. Everyone had a blast!
After the walk, the campers split up into groups with Allie, Chantelle, Julie, Laura and myself. We all walked around the Land Lab, each exploring different areas. Those activities brought us to lunch time. After lunch the kids played a game of Capture the Flag in the field. During quiet time, the campers drew some pictures and read their books. The first afternoon block included shelter making, bracelet making and a scavenger hunt.
Despite the big storm that came through, the campers had a great afternoon doing some fun inside activities! Some kids went to the barn to sand wood and others went to the porch to draw and start some new bracelets. Some campers worked on simple bracelets while others worked on more complicated ones. The day ended well with a good closing meeting. We are so excited for the week week ahead!
Pond Day will be on Wednesday this week and we would love to start preparing our Stone Soup tomorrow. Each camper can bring in one vegetable or herb to contribute to the soup.
See you tomorrow!
